Have you ever fired someone? And have you ever fired someone whom you interviewed yourself and recommended to hire?
I did. It was several years ago. I was a pretty young "boss" in the company. I was hired by owner as a Chief Technology Officer and I was responsible for the technical staff of the company. There was a guy, who impressed me during the interview. He was able to speak on any topic of potential job, besides, his was full of theory and was able to discuss it. I liked him and recommended to hire. After a month I figured out that he didn't do anything, except reading newsgroups, forums and chatting with friends. The company couldn't accept it and didn't have any spare minute. We had to hire a contactor to do his work and paid for that more then his monthly paycheck.
According to the first month hire deal, I could give him from 0% to 100% of his paycheck for first month. I decided to charge him for contractor's time and his paycheck came to $0.
Any thoughts on moral and practical sides of this issue?
